About Datum Japan

Datum Japan makes official Japanese economic and market data easier to read for an English-speaking audience. Japan publishes a great deal of high-quality data through its central bank, ministries, and statistics agencies — but much of it is hard to find, hard to read, or only in Japanese. We translate and visualize it.

The project is run from Japan by an independent operator who is learning about markets in the open, acting as a translator and explainer rather than an analyst. The aim is simple: take a primary source, show it clearly, explain how it's measured, define the Japan-specific terms, and link back so you can check it yourself.

We publish data, not advice. Nothing here is a recommendation or a market call. We believe well-presented primary data is useful on its own, and that readers are best placed to draw their own conclusions.

See our methodology for how we source and verify everything, and the glossary for plain-English definitions.
